Royal Initiative Towards African Countries Shows ‘Real Leadership’ – Guatemalan Newspaper

Guatemala City – The initiative of HM King Mohammed VI to send medical aid to several African countries to support their efforts in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is “a perfect example of intra-African solidarity and shows real leadership,” according to Guatemalan newspaper “Prensa Libre”.

“Although the Kingdom of Morocco is also facing the coronavirus pandemic and its economic repercussions, this reality has not affected its will to help its African brothers”, Prensa Libre pointed out in an article written by journalist Vida Amor Paz under the title “We must learn from other nations”.

The Moroccan medical aid sent to several African countries is part of the implementation of the initiative launched by HM the King in April as an action-oriented approach, enabling the sharing of experiences and good practices and aiming to establish an operational framework in order to support their efforts in the various phases of the management of the pandemic, she said.

All the protective equipment and medicines sent to African countries were made in Morocco and by Moroccan companies, the journalist underlined, noting that these products comply with the standards of the World Health Organization.

At a videoconference meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the African Union, Morocco has also called on for the creation of a platform of African experts in the fight against epidemics in order to help the continent face future health challenges, she added.

Morocco is among the first countries in the world to support the global response to the coronavirus pandemic, and the largest contributor on the African continent to this approach which aims to ensure universal access to affordable vaccines, treatments and tests, the Guatemalan journalist pointed out.

Moreover, Amor Paz, who is also an expert and activist in the field of environmental protection, highlighted the measures taken by Morocco on the initiative of HM the King to resolve major environmental problems, ensure sustainable food security and adapt African agriculture to climate change.
