President of the Republic Kaies Saied held a telephone conversation Thursday with Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2023 winner Moungi Bawendi and congratulated him on this scientific distinction.

Saied said this is a new international recognition of Tunisian expertise and the value of Tunisian human resources able to innovate in a wide array of fields if favourable conditions are made available, reads a Presidency press release.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded last October 4 the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2023 to Tunisian-American Moungi Bawendi – a 62-year-old Lester Wolfe Professor of Chemistry at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)- along with American Louis Brus and Russian Alexei Ekimov for “the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots,” which illuminate computer monitors and television screens and are used by doctors to map tumours.
