Morocco Turkmenistan Reiterate Commitment to Defending National Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity of Sovereign States (Joint Statement)

Rabat – Morocco and Turkmenistan reiterated on Wednesday in Rabat their commitment to defending the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of sovereign States according to a joint statement issued on the occasion of the official visit to the Kingdom of deputy chairman of the Cabinet of ministers and minister for Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rachid Meredov at the invitation of minister of Foreign Affairs African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita.

“Both parties reiterate their commitment to the defence of the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of sovereign States and their opposition to any interference in their internal affairs” says the statement issued at the end of the third session of Moroccan-Turkmen political consultations.

With regard to the legal framework governing bilateral relations both sides agreed to enrich it and to speed up the signing of draft agreements.

In this regard both sides expressed their satisfaction with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a Joint Commission an agreement on the abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic and service passports between the two countries and a document setting out a roadmap between the ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries for the period 2020-2021.

Concerning the cultural component the two parties stressed the importance of organizing cultural events and encouraging the participation of their respective artistic and folklore teams in international cultural festivals held by both countries.

The Moroccan side the document adds expressed its readiness to positively consider the possibility of receiving academics and imams from Turkmenistan in Morocco in addition to the exchange of students and trainees from both parties.

The meeting was an opportunity to review issues of common interest such as international peace and stability the fight against terrorism and climate change notes the statement.
