Morocco, Chile Urged To Strengthen Economic Cooperation, Chilean Official

Rabat – Morocco and Chile are called upon to strengthen their economic cooperation, particularly in the commercial and agricultural fields, said, on Monday in Rabat, speaker of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies Ivan Flores.

“The economies of Morocco and Chile are similar and complementary, especially in the agricultural sector,” said the Chilean official in a statement to the press after a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita.

Given the difference in climate conditions between the two regions, Chile and Morocco are able to guarantee a supply of agricultural products throughout the year, said the Chilean official, adding that the two countries, which are trade platforms in their respective continents, can enter the European and Asian markets.

He noted that the exports of the two countries are also compatible, adding that officials are called upon to speed up consultations in order to consolidate bilateral economic cooperation.

He also stressed the importance for Morocco and Chile to strengthen the complementarity of their economies, recalling that the two countries are facing the same challenges, mainly employment and cyber crime.

In addition, Flores welcomed the signing of an agreement between the legislative institutions of the two countries, aimed at institutionalizing a bilateral dialogue commission and setting up a space for sharing parliamentary experience.

The speaker of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies is on a two-day working visit to the Kingdom, during which he will hold talks with several Moroccan officials.
