Government Spokesperson Vows Rewards for Households, Public Establishments with Least Electricity Consumption

Baitas, who was speaking at a press conference after the weekly meeting of the Governing Council, specified that the objective is to make a comparison, in terms of consumption, between the months of November and December 2022 and the same period of the previous year, adding that details on the modalities of granting this reward will be given later.

The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, had insisted, during a presentation to the Governing Council, on the absolute necessity of reducing energy consumption, indicating that her department had launched an unprecedented initiative in this regard as part of an energy efficiency awareness campaign.

This initiative consists of encouraging the end consumer to reduce their bill during the months of November and December 2022 in exchange for a reward, during 2023, proportional to the energy saved compared to the same period of the previous year, he explained.

Government to Grant New Financial Support to Transport Professionals

Answering questions from journalists at a press briefing held at the end of the Council of Government, Baitas said the government will launch the registration operation via an electronic platform dedicated to transport professionals, explaining that the amount of support will be set on the basis of selling prices of fuels.

The government had launched an operation of exceptional support to road transport professionals in order to preserve the purchasing power of citizens, given the current situation marked by rising fuel prices nationally and internationally.

This support was divided into several tranches that benefited different categories of professionals.

Geneva: NGO Addresses to UN on Forced Disappearance of Young Hirak Activist

Abdelhamid Bouziza (25) is a peaceful movement activist and social media blogger who was concerned about issues related to political detainees and their defense through social media, the NGO said in a statement.

The case dates back to 19 October when members of the Brigade of Research and Investigation and the National Gendarmerie stormed the house of the young activist in the Saf Saf neighborhood in Tlemcen (Northwest), arrested him and then took him to an unknown destination, Alkarama added.

According to his family, the same source adds, his brother went to look for him at the State Security Center in Tlemcen, without success, and was informed that his brother was transferred to the capital the following day, October 20, 2022.

The lawyers, who went to inquire about him at the court of Tlemcen and in the courts of the capital, found no trace or file concerning him, noted the non-governmental organization, making known that to date, there is no information on the fate of Abdelhamid Bouziza and his place of detention.

His family has also received no contact from him, Alkarama said, recalling the “seriousness of the phenomenon of enforced disappearances which constitute, according to international law, a crime against humanity.”

Alkarama also expresses “its deep concern about the repetition by the country’s current political system of the experience of enforced disappearances in the 1990s, which resulted in the enforced disappearance of ten to twenty thousand victims.”

It noted that the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances has received more than three thousand cases of disappearance, adding that for ten years, the Working Group has been calling on the Algerian government to allow visits to the country.

However, the NGO said, despite numerous approvals, no visits have taken place so far, demonstrating “the lack of cooperation of the current regime with international mechanisms.”

Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, Powerful Tool for Development and Regional Integration (Official)

“It is a transformative project for our continent,” said Benkhadra who was speaking before a panel of investors on the sidelines of the 3rd edition of the African Investment Forum, initiated by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

She recalled, in this regard, that this strategic infrastructure, born of the enlightened vision of HM King Mohammed VI and Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari, aims to maximize the economic, social and environmental benefits on the territories concerned through the acceleration of electrification, support for development, boosting of regional economy and economic integration.

For her, the vision that guides this project, the basis of collaboration between Nigeria and Morocco, serves as a basis for the integration in this strategic project of all countries along the pipeline.

It is a question of truly contributing to the development of an important part of the continent and ensuring equitable and sustainable growth for all 350 to 400 million people who will benefit from it, she noted in a statement to MAP.

She stressed that this meeting organized at the request of the AfDB has allowed to exchange and position this project in the radar of major partners gathered under the Abidjan Forum.

According to Benkhadra, this important platform (Forum) is a major place of exchange and regular meetings to establish investment agreements.

The development of Africa requires a considerable need for funding, insisted ONHYM Director General, highlighting that this large-scale event was marked by the presence of several heads of state and government.

Marrakech: FCEM President Calls Morocco Africa’s ‘Reference’ in Green Economy

“Through its national charter of sustainable development or its many initiatives to fight against global warming, Morocco cooperates widely with sub-Saharan African countries on issues related to the green economy,” said Oghly in a speech delivered at the 69th World Congress of Women Entrepreneurs (FCEM).

She cited the example of Gabon, where Morocco via its companies export best practices for the economy and development of agricultural water, reducing soil pollution and promoting clean energy in agriculture, but also structuring projects for the processing and development of seafood, especially in a country considered one of the largest consumers of fish in Africa.

Oghly also said that the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), following the creation in 2006 of its CSR label, is committed to training the executives of its member companies on the issue of Climate Finance, adding that several associations and think tanks have emerged and aim to raise awareness and the emergence of a culture of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Morocco.

Green finance has also dominated the activities in Morocco, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in 2021, she recalled, noting that green finance represents for the first time more than half of the investments of the said Bank in the Kingdom with 211 million euros devoted to support a dozen projects.

Regarding the 69th Congress of Women Entrepreneurs World (FCEM), Oghly said it is a time for exchange and sharing to advance the collective thinking on the major issues of the moment, but also prospective on the place and role of women entrepreneurship within the economic and social environments of member countries.

“By exchanging our best practices and experiences, we will promote the emergence of new models contributing to a more harmonious development and less impacting the planet,” she said.

She concluded that women entrepreneurs, “by their uniqueness, their practical approach and their determination, will once again be at the forefront of this colossal challenge, undoubtedly the most important that humanity has been facing.”

Dams Show Filling Rate of 25% on Nov. 1 (Minister)

Presenting the draft sectoral budget of the Ministry of Equipment and Water for the year 2023 before the Committee of Infrastructure, Energy, Mining and Environment in the House of Representatives, Baraka added that the beginning of the current hydrological year was marked by moderate rainfall that fed the water reserves of some basins.

The Minister said that the volume of water entering the dams, at the beginning of the current year, has reached 424 million m3, which represents a deficit of 43% compared to the annual average and a surplus of 74% compared to the previous year, noting that 2021 was the 4th hottest year since 1981 and that the average temperature exceeded by about 0.9 degrees Celsius the usual average recorded during the period from 1981 to 2010.

Baraka explained that, despite the decline in water reserves in dams, drinking water needs have been met through the use of desalination of seawater, especially in Agadir, the strengthening of supplies from groundwater, the networking of river basins and the reduction of most supplies for irrigation.

Regarding groundwater resources, the Minister noted that they have posted a significant decline in their level due to low rainfall and snow, as well as their excessive use for drinking water supply and irrigation, noting that most of the water tables have experienced, during this year, a record drop in water level ranging from -3 meters to -6.85 meters.

Advisor to HM the King Highlights Morocco’s Defense for Women’s Rights

“It is with pride and optimism that we have gathered today, under the enlightened and pioneering leadership of His Majesty the King, to measure the progress made, with you, for you, for all of us”, said Azoulay at the opening of the 69th World Congress of Women Entrepreneurs (FCEM).

Azoulay took this opportunity to pay tribute to the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Morocco (AFEM), “which is full of creative and militant women who are committed without qualms, without frilosity and without demagogy, with lucidity and determination, in favor of the socio-economic empowerment of women.”

Highlighting “the exhilarating pages that women have written in my country for centuries,” Mr. Azoulay recalled that “the history book of the Kingdom is deeply rooted in millennia of sedimentation of the diversity of all civilizations that have forged and nurtured the social modernity of Moroccan society today.”

Azoulay stressed that the choice of Marrakech to host this annual mass, which brings together the largest gathering of women decision-makers and business leaders working in different sectors, “is not insignificant.

“The Moroccan society has the talent, courage and will to build today a society that turns its back, with clarity and determination, to all these regressions, all these archaisms and all these denials of another age that, unfortunately, resurface today all around us,” he concluded.

Organized this year by the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Morocco (AFEM), the FCCM brings together Ministers, Presidents of regions, Mayors and elected officials, leaders of NGO organizations, economic operators, donors and development cooperation agencies, offering all participants an opportunity for business and investment.

In his presentation, Ait Taleb recalled the general framework of this project, whose implementation comes in application of the Royal High Instructions for a radical reform of the health system, and the framework law 09.21 on social protection, Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesman, Mustapha Baitas said during a press briefing after the Council.

Marrakech: FNM, IMA Seal Partnership to Co-organize Travelling Exhibition in March 2023

Initialled by Mehdi Qotbi, president of the FNM and Jack Lang, president of the IMA, this agreement is part of the cultural cooperation momentum between Morocco and France instituted by the Partnership Agreement for Cultural Cooperation and Development signed on July 25, 2003, as well as the joint statement issued at the end of the XIth Franco-Moroccan High Level Meeting, held in Rabat on December 13, 2012.

Under this agreement, the signatory parties undertake to join forces to present in 2023, for the first time in Morocco, a traveling exhibition of major works of modern and contemporary art at the Mohammed VI Museum of Contemporary Art in Rabat, at the Kasbah Museum of Mediterranean Cultures in Tangier and at the Dar El Bacha Museum of Confluences in Marrakech.

This IMA collection, which will be loaned for the first time to another institution, was recently enriched by the major donation of Claude and France Lemand.

“It will present a rich panorama on the avant-garde and the plural modernities of the countries of the Arab world from 1945 to the present day. With a majority of paintings but also, sculptures, photographs and graphic works,” reads the text of the agreement.

Cooperation between the FNM and the IMA has already begun in 2014, by organizing the exhibition “Contemporary Morocco” in Paris, and in 2015 in Rabat. This major event, explains the FNM, demonstrated the vibrancy and richness of the art scene of Morocco.

In 2019, this partnership continued, in collaboration with the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco through the organization of the exhibition “The Treasures of Islam from Timbuktu to Zanzibar” at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, which welcomed a large number of visitors.

“We sign today with the Arab World Institute and, in collaboration with an essential and valuable partner in all projects of the FNM, namely the French Institute in Morocco, an agreement for the co-organization of such an important exhibition, since we will present in Morocco an unprecedented collection of masterpieces from the collection of the IMA,” Qotbi told M24, MAP’s TV channel.

“What I would like to emphasize is that for the first time, the exhibition will not only go to Rabat (….) but will also be installed in Tangier and Marrakech. There will be, therefore, a splitting of this exhibition so that all Moroccans can enjoy it,” Qotbi added.

Through this traveling exhibition it will also highlight the talent of many Arab artists, he explained, noting that the IMA has also decided to equip a library of the FNM at the Museum Mohammed VI of Modern and Contemporary Art.

He also highlighted Lang’s passion and admiration for Morocco, a country cited as an example in the world, thanks to the enlightened policy of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, noting that the Sovereign has given to culture the place it should have in every modern country.

For his part, Lang expressed his satisfaction for signing this highly original, promising and unique agreement with the FNM, given that this is the first time the IMA has decided to bring out of its walls valuable collections of modern and contemporary Arab art.

“It is therefore for the first time outside the IMA, in another country and it is quite normal, that Morocco, a great country of culture and knowledge, will host for several months, these exceptional works in several of its cities. It is a traveling exhibition through this great country,” he said.

“If Morocco was obviously chosen, it is because it is a great country that devotes so much effort to culture today,” said Lang, while calling His Majesty King Mohammed VI “Great Man of Culture and Learning”, and highlighting the passion, knowledge and love of the Sovereign for culture and contemporary arts.
