Rabat – Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami met, on Friday in Rabat, with the President of the Belgian Liberal Party (Reform Movement) George-Louis Bouchez.

In a statement, the Lower House said that these talks highlighted the bilateral and multilateral relations between the two countries’ Houses, as well as between Moroccan politicians and parliamentarians and their Belgian counterparts to strengthen their sustainable dialogue.

On this occasion, Talbi El Alami presented the Moroccan experience under the 2011 Constitution, the Moroccan electoral and parliamentary systems and the specificities of the House of Representatives in assessing public policies and relations with the rest of the constitutional institutions, as well as the main roles of parliamentary diplomacy in coordination with continental and international parliaments and fora.

Speaker of the House of Representatives also outlined developments in the Moroccan Sahara issue and the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom, the statement added.

Recalling that the issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity enjoys broad regional and international support, Talbi El Alami argued that the latest resolution of the Security Council once again demonstrates the pre-eminence of the Moroccan autonomy initiative to resolve the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

In this regard, he presented data on the multidimensional development in the southern provinces, highlighting in particular the high voter turnout in the 2021 legislative election in the Moroccan Sahara.

Talbi El Alami also highlighted the particularities of the Moroccan model in areas related to security and stability, as well as in terms of the importance given to human capital and immigration issues. He also mentioned Morocco’s commitment to large-scale projects, such as teaching, education, medical coverage, social security, employment, renewable energies, food security, and digital transformation, making the Kingdom a model both at the continental and international levels.

For his part, Bouchez welcomed his talks with the President of the House of Representatives, stressing the importance of this meeting in strengthening the constructive and sustainable dialogue between politicians and parliamentarians of both countries, in the approximation of positions, and in the examination of the Moroccan model and the specificities of major projects that the Kingdom undertakes.

The leader of the Belgian Liberals also emphasized the importance of these visits in the context of the positive dynamics that mark the bilateral relations.

This meeting is an opportunity to exchange views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest at the political and parliamentary levels, he said, adding that it is also an opportunity to focus on the realities and review the data to build strong and sustainable political and parliamentary relations.

As part of his working visit to the Kingdom, Bouchez will meet with several Moroccan officials and make field visits to learn about major projects undertaken by Morocco under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.
