The President of the Commission for Information Technology and Liberties (CIL), Marguerite Ouédraogo, on Thursday called on people to exercise restraint in the disclosure of their personal data and their private lives on digital platforms .

“We call on our populations to be a little restrained on these digital platforms”, indicated the president of the Commission for Information Technology and Freedoms, Marguerite Ouédraogo about their personal data.

According to Ms. Ouédraogo, people are very inclined today as soon as they go to a restaurant, pay a visit somewhere or carry out any activity so that the whole world knows what they are doing.

According to her, it is not always necessary to disclose this information, because “we rather expose ourselves”.

Marguerite Ouédraogo was speaking at the 6th General Assembly (GA) of the African Network of Personal Data Protection Authorities (RAPDP).

By the way, she advised citizens not to disclose their intimate information and private life on social networks.

“I would say that in this area, the first and best protection is that of the citizen himself. We must protect our personal data ourselves before the Protection Authorities accompanying us can help us,” she said.

The permanent secretary of the Network, the president of the Moroccan authority for the protection of personal data, Omar Seghrouchni, affirmed that “we cannot consider digitization which is also necessary, without considering the digital trust which must accompany it”.

In his opinion, this digitization, the protection of personal data takes a major place at this level to build digital trust.

It should be noted that the African Network of Personal Data Protection Authorities, created in 2016 in Ouagadougou, made up of 24 African countries, is holding its 6th General Assembly on the sidelines of the international conference on the protection of personal data from May 9 to 12, 2023.
