Tunis: The “Hak” movement has warned of the danger of holding presidential elections in the absence of a constitutional court.

To this end, it has called for speeding up the appointment of the court’s members in order to lay the foundations for the rule of law.

In a statement issued Monday, the “Hak” movement said it was “following with great concern the continued blockage of the establishment of the Constitutional Court despite the lifting of the procedural obstacles that prevented agreement on its members”.

It stressed that one of the main mistakes of the period following the adoption of the 2014 Constitution was the delay in the establishment of this court due to political calculations that did not take into account the interests of the state and the smooth functioning of the institutions.

The “Hak” movement reiterated its call for “the establishment of a democratic presidential regime that respects rights and freedoms within the framework of a genuine balance of power.’

It stressed that ‘the Constitu
tional Court can help change the political climate to meet the requirements of democracy and counter any attempt at authoritarian drift”.

The Machrouu Tounes movement, the Al Badil Youth group and the Deraa El Watan movement, on November 17, announced their merger into a single party called the Hak Movement.
