Sharm el-Sheikh – A Side Event under the theme “Towards a resilient and low carbon building sector: Crossed views on solutions and initiatives for decarbonization of the sector and adaptation to climate change”, was organized on Wednesday at the Moroccan pavilion on the sidelines of the COP 27 held in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt, at the initiative of the Ministry of National Planning, Urban Development, Housing and Urban Policy, in partnership with UN-Habitat and the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (Global ABC).

On this occasion, Majida El Ouardirhi, Secretary General of the Department of Housing and Urban Policy, recalled that the Ministry is developing a new vision of urban planning and housing to reduce social and territorial inequalities and improve the living environment of citizens, taking into account the socio-economic, territorial and climatic requirements.

During this event, experts and institutions presented ambitious examples of climate-friendly actions and policies in the building and construction sector that could provide concrete solutions to the challenges of combating climate change and strengthen resilience to climate change.

In order to achieve these goals, the building sector will need to undertake a major transformation to massively reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the building lifecycle by 2030 and 2050 and ensure resilience.
