The commander of the National Brigade of Firefighters of Burkina Faso, Lieutenant-Colonel Daba NAON called on Thursday, the population to show good citizenship, in order to facilitate their rescue missions.

“We urge the population to respect traffic rules concerning priority vehicles and to use the ’18’ only in the event of an emergency,” said the commander of the National Fire Brigade, Lieutenant-Colonel Daba NAON, on the occasion of International Firefighters Day.

Indeed, he explained that abusive and malicious calls compromise the organization of emergency relief and can even endanger human lives.

He also deplored the behavior of some road users who voluntarily refuse, he said, to give way to emergency services, despite the light and sound warning devices.

Also, the insufficiency of the intervention equipment and the insufficient mesh of the territory in barracks, increase the tasks of the Firefighters in the exercise of their function, according to the first person in charge of the BNSP.

Lieutenant-Colonel NAON, while requesting the “permanent” support of the population, reaffirms their commitment to saving human lives.

At the same time, he paid tribute to the fallen firefighters in the exercise of their noble missions.

“On this particular day, our sad thoughts and our sincere condolences go to the families of the fallen firefighters to whom we express our moral support and our compassion,” added the commander of the National Fire Brigade, Daba NAON

He salutes the commitment of the Firefighters on a daily basis and calls on the young generation to be more available in order to be more effective in the service of others.

As a reminder, the body of firefighters was created on March 7, 1979, under the name “Battalion of military firefighters” and became in January 1995, the National Brigade of Firefighters.

The National Fire Brigade has more than 30,000 interventions per year carried out by more than 2,500 soldiers of both sexes.

Its mission is to ensure, in all circumstances, the protection and safety of persons and property against fire and perils or accidents of all kinds.

Also, International Firefighters Day is celebrated on May 4. The origin of this date follows the death of five firefighters in a fire in Australia on January 4, 1999.
