Work to rehabilitate technical installations of TGM railway line to start at end of 2023

Work to rehabilitate the technical installations of the Tunis-La Goulette-La Marsa (TGM) railway line will begin by the end of 2023, said Chairman and Managing Director of the Tunisian Transport Company (TRANSTU), Abderraouf Salah.

At a press conference held on Friday at TRANSTU’s headquarters, Salah explained that the cost of this project has been set at 30 million dinars from the state budget, in preparation for the delivery at the end of 2026 of 18 new rolling stock, the subject of loan agreements with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) worth 90 million euros.

He stressed that “the rehabilitation of the technical installations on the TGM railway line will help to ensure the necessary safety conditions for transport, as well as increasing the capacity of the vehicles on this line, increasing the frequency of services and improving the quality of services, especially after the entry into service of 18 new trains”.

Salah said the project has several components, including the reconstruction of two bridges and the consolidation of five others, pointing out that the work does not require the suspension of rail traffic. The only section that will not be in operation during the work period is the 584-metre section between “La Goulette-Casino and Kheireddine stations,” he noted.
