This meeting is part of the contribution of parliamentarians to discussions on the reform of the national health system and its restructuring according to a participatory approach, through the collective and responsible adherence of the State and the various stakeholders.
Moderated by the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesman, Mustapha Baitas, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, in charge of the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, and the Speaker of the House of Councillors, Enaam Mayara, along with parliamentarians and professionals from the health sector, this meeting was an opportunity to emphasize the need to adopt an effective health and prevention policy, which advocates for equitable access to treatment in the different regions of the Kingdom.
This meeting, which comes at the end of a parliamentary session “important in terms of production and control of government action”, opens the debate on the health system, said Mayara, stressing the need to reform it to preserve the dignity of citizens.
Describing the medical coverage as essential pillar to the establishment of a strong health system, Mayara said that the bills under consideration and adoption in Parliament are part of the strengthening of a new approach in dealing with issues related to society and regionalization, which makes the social thing a regional one with the aim of preserving the specificities of the regions and the provision of local services.
For his part, Lekjaa described the reform of the health system undertaken by Morocco as “real revolution”, whose foundations were laid by HM King Mohammed VI, and which was crowned by the launch, three years ago, of the project of the social protection generalization.
He noted that social protection, which embodies the project of the new development model, reflects the ability of the state to ensure more developed socio-economic roles and high impact.
Baitas, for his part, argued that the social protection generalization is open to all regions of the Kingdom and all components of society, especially those in precarious situation.
The government official said that the cost of the social protection projects amounts to 50 billion dirhams, stressing the importance of public health services to ensure health care for all.
The groups of the majority in the Upper House have, for their part, argued that the promotion of the health sector and its development are a shared responsibility, noting that the reform of the health system is a national priority, including the development of public policies to strengthen human capital and preservation of health of citizens as a prerequisite for the success of the new development model.
