Tunis: Some 9.370 million tourists visited Tunisia in 2023, up 45.5% compared with 2022 and slightly down on the reference year (2019), according to figures provided by the Tourism and Handicrafts Ministry.

The number of tourists who visited the country between January 1 and April 20, 2024, stood at almost 2.125 million, compared with 1.939 million during the same period in 2023, an increase of 9.6%.

The government expects the tourism sector to pick up again in 2024, and is endeavouring to maintain the good results achieved in 2023, said the Tourism Minister during his visit to Monastir on April 27, 2024.

The focus, he added, will be on improving the quality of services, infrastructure, hospitality, tourist transport, the environment, accommodation and archaeological sites.

In this connection, he recalled the project to revise the classification of hotels, currently in its final phase, which will bring the sector into line with new standards, including respect for the environment and consideration for peo
ple with special needs.
