Social cohesion in Niankorodougou: Communities in cross-border transhumance zones, equipped


The High Commissioner of the province of Léraba, Mahamadi Congo, chaired on Wednesday June 12, 2024 in Niankorodougou, the consultation workshop on mining and the preservation of agro-pastoral spaces, for the benefit of communities in cross-border transhumance areas.

It is with the objective of seeking solutions to manage conflicts between mining operators, farmers, pastoralists and landowners located in the Niankorodougou area, that the periodic dialogue committee for crisis management in Léraba , launched a support call.

This appeal was addressed to the NGO CARE international in Burkina Faso as part of the Peaceful Cross-Border Pastoral Mobility and Social Stability in the Sahel (MOPSS) project.

The workshop took place on Wednesday June 12, 2024 in Niankorodougou, under the chairmanship of the high commissioner of Léraba province, Mahamadi Congo.

Since November 2022, Niankorodougou, a rural commune located to the south of the urban commune of Sindou, capital of the province of Léraba, has been going th
rough a crisis linked to mining.

This crisis caused a lot of economic losses and difficulties linked to the functioning of the public administration and even the Wahgnion gold operation (WGO) mine, after several interventions as part of the resolution of the crises between the protagonists.

Funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and Danida, the objective of the NGO CARE international is to contribute, among other things, to the social cohesion of communities in areas of cross-border transhumance and peaceful cohabitation between all users of natural resources.

The High Commissioner thanked the NGO CARE International for facilitating this dialogue framework.

The participants, through the voice of the head of Niankorodou, welcomed the initiative of the meeting which, according to them, would remove a lot of misunderstanding if it was held before.

The head of the NGO CARE international, Seydou Héma, said he was satisfied with the reactions of notables.
