A new series of measures has been made to address the situation caused by the uncontrolled increase of bodies of irregular migrants among non-Tunisians in the morgue of the regional hospital of Sfax, local health director Hatem Cherif told TAP.

Among these measures, decided on Monday evening in a working session dedicated to the follow-up of this file, is the establishment of a closer coordination with the technical police, in order to speed up the process of taking samples from the victims.

It will also ensure a reduction in the time taken to send and return the analyses of these samples, which will be carried out in Tunis, coordination with the local communes in order to prepare a hundred graves for the burial of the bodies of the deceased and handing over refrigerated containers to the Habib Bourguiba hospital in Sfax for the preservation of the bodies, said Cherif.

These measures and others that will be decided in the next meetings will be the subject of daily monitoring by the Ministries of Health and the Interior in order to overcome the obstacles and prevent the situation from deteriorating in the morgue of the CHU of Sfax, which has reached saturation point, stressed Cherif.

More than 150 bodies of undocumented migrants have been buried in the regions of Grand Sfax in about a week, according to the same source.
