Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe government has suspended construction work on buildings and fuel storage works within the residence of the French ambassador in Ouagadougou, because these projects did not obtain authorization from the competent authorities, the AIB learned on Friday from sources close to the matter.

The Burkinabè government discovered the existence of construction work on buildings and a fuel bunker within the residence of the French ambassador in Ouagadougou.

The bunker, work on which began in 2023, has already received fuel delivered by Total.

In addition to the hold, three blocks of R+1 buildings comprising 28 housing units were built.

According to our information, the government ordered the cessation of work and the suspension of the supply of fuel.

In fact, these types of operations absolutely require authorization from the competent services, our sources inform us.

They specify that no diplomatic immunity can serve as an excuse in this type of circumstance.

However, the French embassy
has neither obtained a demolition permit nor a building permit, much less authorization to supply fuel.

The companies which have started carrying out this work since 2023 and Total Burkina were interviewed at the end of April 2024.

These entities all admitted that they did not verify the necessary authorizations before executing the various contracts.
