“This program will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ensure a rapid energy transition, especially since Morocco is investing in wind, solar and green hydrogen,” noted Adesina in an exclusive interview with MAP.

On this occasion, Adesina commended the effort made by OCP, reiterating the commitment and willingness of the ADB to continue its financial support to Morocco.

“Morocco is a leader in renewable energy,” he said, stressing that the AfDB supports the Kingdom’s ecological transition by emphasizing the development of renewable energy as well as water and sanitation infrastructure to include and enhance the attractiveness of the territories.

He also recalled the Bank’s support to the Moroccan solar program “NOOR”, which contributes to Africa’s energy transition.

“Morocco is our first partner with an important portfolio of operations, with an active portfolio of about 4 billion dollars,” said the official.

He added that this portfolio reflects the excellence of the partnership between Morocco and the AfDB, which covers various sectors, namely energy, transport, agriculture, health, water and sanitation.

On this occasion, Adesina said he is proud of Morocco’s achievements on the social front, with the launch by HM King Mohammed VI of the project to generalize social protection.

The AfDB President is visiting Morocco as part of the fourth and final meeting of the sixteenth replenishment of the African Development Fund (ADF) for the period 2023-2025, the concessional window of the AfDB Group.
