On the occasion of the first edition of the days of patriotic commitment and citizen participation, the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré invited Monday night on national television, the Burkinabè ” to take simple actions such as planting a tree for every happy event, eating local foods and products.’

‘By launching these days of patriotic commitment and citizen participation, I invite every Burkinabè to take simple actions such as planting a tree at each happy event; contribute to the peace effort,’ said Monday night the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, in a message to the Nation broadcast on national television.

In this message, the Head of State invites the Burkinabè to ‘commit themselves as VDP, to conscientiously carry out their tasks as public agents, to protect and respect public property, to pay their taxes; to respect the highway code; to consume local dishes and products, etc.

The national days of patriotic commitment and citizen participation were established
on November 22, 2023 by the Council of Ministers. They are scheduled to be held on March 26 and October 2 each year for two weeks.

According to President Ibrahim Traoré, the Government established these Days with a view to consolidating the foundations of the Burkinabè Nation, strengthening social cohesion and living together.

He indicated that the choice of the first date refers to the political commitment of the hero of the nation, President Thomas Sankara who delivered one of his historic speeches, ‘Who are the enemies of the people?’ on March 26, 1983 when he was Prime Minister.

As for the second date, October 2, President Traoré stressed that it recalls October 2, 1983, the day when President Thomas Sankara delivered the Political Orientation Speech (DOP) of the Democratic and Popular Revolution.

This period reminds us of many achievements in terms of examples of patriotic commitment, he noted.

As an illustration, the Head of State cited ‘the battle of the rail, the promotion of the consumption of l
ocal products, the emancipation of women, works of common interest, mana mana operations’.

He also added ‘the popular investment effort (EPI 86) for which public agents gave 05 to 12% of their salary to allow the State to build health centers, schools, boreholes, social housing and to provide ambulances to certain remote communities.

The institution of days of patriotic commitment takes place in a worrying security and humanitarian context, characterized by terrorist attacks which are devastated by our populations.

President Ibrahim Traoré took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the ‘valiant defense and security forces and the brave volunteers for the defense of the homeland for the victories achieved in the fight for the reconquest of our dignity and integrity of our territory.

‘These days offer us the opportunity to encourage the Burkinabè to give of themselves for their homeland. I invite you to wear these days proudly, to promote the values ??of patriotism and citizenship,’ he said.
