In a statement issued at the end of its 14th session held in Cairo, the Congress expressed its defense of the legitimate national interests of Arab countries and peoples and its attachment to the independence of national decision in Arab countries.

“It also expressed its rejection of all forms of pressure, blackmail and attempts to impose subordination, in the face of the campaign targeting the Arab nation by some world powers, which use the freedom of the press as a tool for pressure and blackmail,” added the same source.

In this sense, the Congress affirmed its full awareness of the new colonialist policy carried out by proxy by some parties, for the benefit of some colonial powers aiming at splitting the Arab countries as in the cases of Yemen, Syria, Libya, Sudan and Somalia.

On the other hand, the Congress stressed the imperative of enshrining the freedom of the press and guaranteeing the safety of journalists and preserve their dignity in order to face the major social, political and economic challenges that the Arab nation is experiencing, emphasizing the seriousness of the deep changes in the media and information sector, which have been accompanied by an increase in demand for content characterized by insignificance, which poses great challenges requiring profound reforms. During two days, the Congress discussed the Union’s action plan for the coming years, the election of a new General Secretariat, ways to cope with the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the crisis in Ukraine on the Arab press, as well as ways to enable the Union to assume its effective role in defending the freedom and causes of journalists and the press, as well as Arab causes in the face of the lies and rumors that surround the Arab world.
