Moroccan FM Takes Part in Arab League Council’s 157th Ordinary Session

The discussions focused on relations between Morocco and DRC and ways to develop them in various areas of common interest. The two sides stressed the need to increase efforts to explore opportunities to strengthen partnership between the two countries, says a statement from Morocco’s upper house.

The two sides also underlined the importance of parliamentary action in consolidating bilateral relations through the exchange of visits and expertise, recalling the recommendations of the 11th Conference of the Association of Senates, Shoora Councils and Equivalent Councils of Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA) and the Parliamentary Dialogue Forum of Senates and Equivalent Councils of Africa, the Arab world, Latin America and the Caribbean.

In addition, Mayara reviewed the composition and prerogatives of the House of Advisors, and the role of the legislative institutions of both countries to strengthen the understanding and mutual respect and explore new prospects for partnership.

The upper house speaker informed the Congolese delegation of the progress made by the Kingdom in the field of women’s representation in elected bodies, noting in this regard that 15 female members are sitting in the House in its present composition. He also expressed the availability of the House of Advisors to share its experience in this area.

For her part, Tshomba Ntundu noted that this visit reflects the depth of historical ties between the two countries, which have been friends for decades.

She also expressed her admiration for the Moroccan experience in the field of women’s representation, emphasizing the work to introduce the principle of positive discrimination in the future electoral law in her country and the consultation with political actors on this issue.
