Morocco has always stood out for its intelligent and humanistic management of the migration issue between the two shores of the Mediterranean, thanks in particular to a national strategy for migration and asylum launched in 2013, underlined the author of the article Moises Amselem El Baz, who is the president of the Association of Moroccan Jews in Mexico.

The author of the article noted that the Moroccan strategy is based on a “solidarity and inclusive approach” to deal with this problem, noting that this phenomenon is motivated by the “dream of a better life” which “ends between the hands of international mafias”.

According to Mr. El Baz, what happened last Friday in Nador underlines the urgent need to transform the discussion on migration policies into a global issue, centered on people, and which is not limited to countries of origin, transit or reception.

He pointed out that the Moroccan policy, in this regard, goes beyond the issue of immigration to focus on asylum, making the Kingdom a pioneer in this area in Africa and an example for many countries in the world that are looking for a global solution and an effective humanist vision to manage this problem.

“Thousands of people from sub-Saharan countries live in Morocco, including a large number of students who benefit from scholarships made available through the various mechanisms of inter-African cooperation”, he said, noting that this policy has contributed to countering the activities of international human trafficking mafias.

Mr. El Baz also stressed that Morocco has always been a land of asylum for those who have been forced to leave their homeland, recalling the unique and historic coexistence between Jews, Muslims and Christians in the Kingdom.
