Marrakech: 1st Parliamentary Economic Forum for Euro-Mediterranean, Gulf Region Wraps Up

The Forum, the first of its kind, was an opportunity to discuss the most pressing economic and environmental issues of the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf region, through the active participation of parliamentarians from some thirty countries, as well as public and private sector actors, academics, experts, businessmen and representatives of civil society.

 

The rich and fruitful discussions that marked the Forum’s thematic sessions outlined a new approach to the pressing challenges facing the Mediterranean and Gulf regions, in order to strengthen cooperation between these two geographical areas and intensify efforts to address common challenges.

 

In an address at the closing session, the President of the House of Councillors, Ennam Mayara, praised the high level of contributions of speakers “who have managed to address the issues and questions raised from different angles”, allowing to anticipate ways to strengthen regional cooperation between the Mediterranean and Gulf countries and ways to establish a Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf economic area and achieve a more effective and sustainable south-south and north-south economic integration.

 

The President of the House of Councillors also reiterated the importance of this integration for the Arab Gulf and Mediterranean regions, an area of peace and stability, which ensures the support and strengthening of trade cooperation, financial and investment promotion, in addition to launching a political dialogue, security cooperation, social and cultural, as well as the regular exchange of information and plans in all areas of cooperation

 

Mayara also noted the full readiness of the Kingdom of Morocco to engage seriously and responsively in any new dynamic that would raise the Euro-Arab dialogue to the level of a real and profitable cooperation and this, in the best interests of the countries of the two regions, expressing the wish for the institutionalization of this Forum to make it a regular appointment.
