Lower House Speaker Holds Talks with Parliamentary Delegation from DRC

Mr. Talbi Alami praised, on this occasion, the excellent level of relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the DRC, which is one of the largest countries on the African continent, stressing the need to consolidate these relations in order to address the challenges facing the two countries, including those related to human and sustainable development, climate change, migration and human rights, the House of Representatives said in a statement.

The Speaker informed the Congolese delegation of the progress made by the Kingdom in the area of the representation of women in elected bodies, including parliament, noting in this regard that women represent a quarter of the total of the members of the House in its current composition.

He also expressed the readiness of the Moroccan House of Representatives to share its experience in this area.

During these talks, Talbi Alami asked the head of the Congolese delegation to send a message to his counterpart, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Christophe Mboso, in order to revitalize and make operational the Pan-African Parliament, with a view to finding common solutions to the problems facing the African continent.

For her part, Mrs. Tshomba Ntundu said that this visit reflects the depth of the historical ties between the two countries, which have been friends for decades.

She also expressed her admiration for the Moroccan experience in the area of women’s representation, stressing the importance of introducing the principle of positive discrimination in the future electoral law in her country as well as consultation with political actors on this subject.

The delegation, on a working visit to Morocco until March 11, includes, in addition to Mrs. Tshomba Ntundu, MPs Yama Nzalabar Jolie, Gamoto Mateyase Valentine, Mwamba Banza Odette and Mangay Munvunga Patrick.
