The president of the Italian confederation of farmers, Cristiano Fini, welcomed, during his talks with the chairman of the thematic committee on food security, El Mehdi Atmoun, who made a working visit to Italy from 22 to 26 June, the various initiatives carried out by HM King Mohammed VI in this field.

The Italian official, quoted in a statement of the House of Councillors, stressed that the Moroccan model of food security is a “source of inspiration for the African continent, especially in this situation, marked by geopolitical changes that make food sovereignty a strategic priority.

The specialized committee created by the House of Councillors represents a new pragmatic approach, which strengthens the role of parliaments in food security and promotes institutional creativity in favor of development and the interests of the population,” said Fini.

In addition, the Director General of the Italian Council for Agricultural Research and Agricultural Economics, Stefano Vaccari, welcomed the efforts made by the Kingdom in adapting agriculture with climate change, especially through the use of renewable energy in order to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050.

The Italian official highlighted the latest developments in the agricultural sector in the peninsula, exposing the role of the Council in maintaining food security despite the episodes of drought.
