EU Willing to Support Moroccan SMEs (Commissioner)

“We are ready to cooperate with you, especially in terms of green energy transition, trade facilitation, digitalization and support for SMEs”, Várhelyi pointed out during a working session with the President of the Moroccan Employers Association (CGEM), Chakib Alj.

On this occasion, the European Commissioner recalled the announcement made recently by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to invest 1.6 billion euros to promote the green and digital transformation of the Kingdom.

For his part, Mr. Alj noted that this meeting is timely to discuss the essential role that relations between Moroccan and European companies can play to further develop good neighborly relations.

“Our European counterparts are also convinced of this. It is in this regard that we have already entered into a relationship with the confederation of European companies, Business Europe, with a joint request to politicians, that of modernizing our trade and investment relations” , he underlined.

In addition, Mr. Alj praised the quality of relations between the CGEM and the European Commission, as well as the efficiency of their cooperation on several issues, in particular the promotion of entrepreneurship, citing the launch of the platform “Intaliq” aimed at equipping Moroccan project leaders to succeed in their entrepreneurial experience.

“Our country is today charting its course on a liberal, pro-business and pro-EU voice,” he said, adding that Ursula von der Leyen confirmed this, especially with the investment of 1,6 billion euros for the development of a green partnership, focused on energy and a digital partnership “to increase the connectivity between our societies and our markets.”

This meeting was attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco, Patricia Pilar Llombart Cussac, as well as presidents of commissions of the CGEM.
