The Rescue Association of Tunisians Stranded Abroad called on the President of the Republic to create a mechanism within the Foreign Affairs Ministry which in charge of conducting search operations and investigations into the fate of Tunisian nationals who went missing or stranded abroad and taking final decision on cases pending for years.

In a statement on Mother’s Day published Monday, the association expressed concern over “the uncertain fate of a number of Tunisian women and children who have disappeared and been stranded abroad.”

It deplored “the trauma underwent by some Tunisian mothers who are claiming their rights to know the fate of their children.”

The association called for more details on the fate of Sofiene Chourabi and Nadhir Ktari as well as the Tunisian children stranded in Libya and in the North West of Syria with their mothers and citizens who disappeared as part of irregular migration to Europe and the young people detained since 2013 in Syria, released the same year by Syrian President Bashar Al Assad, given that they were not involved in terrorism cases.

The association indicated that the final report of the committee in charge of monitoring the cases of Tunisians who disappeared within the framework of irregular migration has not been published, the same statement said.

That committee was created on June 4, 2015 under the decision of the Social Affairs Minister to follow up on the file of irregular migrants to the Italian coasts during 2011-2012, the same source added.
