Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélem de Tambèla, said on Tuesday during his speech on the situation of the Nation that the government plans to recruit 100,000 Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP ) to further strengthen the numbers of the fighting forces, in the reconquest of the national territory.
“Our ambition is to increase the number of VDPs to 100,000 and even beyond, so that the populations, at all times, are able to ensure their own security themselves,” said Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélem. of Tambela.
On October 24, 2022, Burkina Faso began a new recruitment of 50,000 Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) municipal and national, army auxiliaries to help fight terrorism in the country.
The Prime Minister spoke on Tuesday in Ouagadougou before the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) on the national situation.
To this end, Mr. Kyélem de Tambèla has indicated that to date, the sums collected within the framework of the patriotic support fund (FSP) amount to more than ten billion CFA francs.
According to the head of the Burkinabè government, a statement will be made soon, in early June, at the next meeting of the FSP Monitoring Committee.
“I invite the Burkinabè to appropriate this fund which can be one of the levers of our desire to build an independent national economy”, he added.
Since 2015, the country has been plagued by terrorist attacks that have left hundreds dead, more than 2 million displaced people and the closure of many schools and health establishments.
