Autonomy Plan, Only Solution to Artificial Conflict over Moroccan Sahara (Peruvian Congress Foreign Affairs Committee)

“Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara is obvious,” said Mr. Bustamante during talks with the Speaker of the House of Representatives (lower house), Rachid Talbi Alami, adding, moreover, that “the clear position of the Peruvian parliament is to support the consolidation of relations between the two countries”.

Mr. Bustamante, who is leading a parliamentary delegation on a working visit to Morocco, commended Morocco’s success in managing the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the development experienced by many sectors, including renewable energy, infrastructure, industry and agriculture, according to a statement from the House of Representatives.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral trade and economic exchanges in view of the signing of a free trade agreement between Morocco and Peru.

For his part, Mr. Talbi Alami welcomed the visit of the delegation of the Peruvian Congress to the Kingdom, which reflects the solidity of relations between the two legislative institutions.

He underlined that the territorial integrity of the Kingdom is the first cause for the House of Representatives and for all the components of the Moroccan people, stressing that “Morocco, a hub of peace and stability, has become a model to follow”.

The Speaker of the Lower House reviewed several aspects of the overall development experienced by the southern provinces of Morocco as well as the structuring projects launched in accordance with the high Royal guidelines, noting that the highest voter turnout in Morocco’s last elections has been recorded in these regions.

Mr. Talbi Alami also outlined the major reforms that Morocco has launched in the constitutional, institutional, economic, agricultural, energy and social areas, expressing, in this regard, the Kingdom’s readiness to share its experience with friendly countries as well as its desire to benefit, at the same time, from their successful experiences.
