Morocco is represented at this session by a delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans abroad, Nasser Bourita. The delegation includes Morocco’s Ambassador to Egypt and its permanent representative to the Arab League, Ahmed Tazi, in addition to the Director of the East, Gulf, Arab and Islamic organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fouad Akhrif, and Abdelali Al-Jahed, Head of the Ministry’s Arab and Islamic organizations division.
Prior to the Council, a closed consultative meeting of Foreign Ministers was held, along with other meetings of the Arab Ministerial Committee to stop Israeli measures in the occupied city of Al-Quds, the Arab Ministerial Follow-up Committee on developments in the crisis with Iran, and the Arab Ministerial Committee in Charge of Following up on Turkish Interventions in Arab Internal Affairs.
The meeting was attended by the presence of the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philip Lazzarini, who reviewed the financial conditions of the agency and the difficulties it faces in its areas of operation.
It was also attended by the Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tanja Fajon, who submitted a support request to the Arab Group for her country’s candidature for a non-permanent membership at the UN Security Council in the 2024–2025 period.
The agenda of the 158th session is structured around eight axes dealing with the various issues of joint Arab action, in the political, security, legal, social, financial and administrative fields.
It also provides for the adoption by the Secretary General of the Arab League of the activity of the General Secretariat and the procedures for implementing the decisions of the Council between the two editions, as well as the semi-annual adoption of the body responsible for monitoring the implementation of decisions and commitments.
The session will discuss the Palestinian issue, the Arab-Israeli conflict and will see the presentation of a report on water security in the Arab world and the Israeli plunder of water in the occupied territories, including in the occupied Syrian Golan.
The Foreign Ministers will also discuss Arab issues and national security, solidarity with Lebanon, developments in Syria, Libya and Yemen, the Iranian colonization of the three islands in the Persian Gulf, as well as maritime security and energy supplies in the Persian Gulf.
