Indeed, for the first time in the history of the Security Council, the Arab Group, the Islamic Group and the Non-Aligned Group did not make statements of support and solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The reason for this is that Algeria prevented them from doing so for the simple reason that their speeches in the name of their respective Groups made references to the important role of the Al-Quds Committee and its Chairman, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in defending the Holy City and the Palestinian cause.
What Algeria has done today is nothing less than an unforgivable betrayal of the sacred cause of the Arab-Muslim world. The shameful silence imposed on the regional groups will forever be engraved in the memory of Arabs and Muslims as the dark day when Algeria sold Palestine and its people out of its unhealthy hatred for Morocco. It is a diplomatic “Nakba” of the Palestinian people, perpetrated and duly assumed by the Algerian regime.
Many UN diplomats are perplexed as to how the Algerian regime could explain why it silenced the voices in support of Palestine of more than 3 billion people represented by the Non-Aligned Movements and the Arab OIC, simply because their statements included paragraphs of praise for the Al-Quds Committee and its Chairman.
And yet, these paragraphs are not new. They have been endorsed and adopted for several decades by the Heads of State and Government of these three groups. So what has changed for Algeria to refuse them now? What has changed is the Algerian regime’s hatred of Morocco, which has reached unacceptable proportions, even if it means sacrificing the Palestinian cause. What has changed is the Algerian regime’s use of its ridiculous conspiracy theories against Morocco and the world to censor international support for its people’s legitimate demands for democracy, human rights, and decent life, in keeping with the country’s enormous resources, which are squandered and used for reasons other than the good of the Algerian people.
Shocked and stunned by the unspeakable attitude of the Algerian ambassador, the Arab diplomats wonder how a country that is supposed to chair the Arab summit in a few months can act with such disdain and humiliation towards the Palestinian cause, a cause that it is supposed to promote and defend?
Arab and Muslim diplomats alike, including Algeria’s friends in Latin America and Asia, are in disbelief. However, they are aware that the Algerian regime is prepared to do anything to counter Morocco. Today, Palestine paid the price. Tomorrow it will be another cause. The Algerian regime has neither political morality, nor diplomatic ethics, nor a spirit of fraternal solidarity. Did it not compromise the integration of the Maghreb region and the development of the entire African continent by attacking Morocco’s territorial integrity? Didn’t it, through its armed separatist group, the polisario, wage a war against its neighbor and brother Morocco for nearly half a century?
The member states are used to the baseness and desperate low blows of Algeria against its neighbor Morocco. But they never imagined, even in their worst nightmares, that Algeria would go to the extent of stabbing the Palestinian cause by depriving it of its traditional support and its diplomatic-strategic depth.
Under the strong and active leadership of its President HM King Mohammed VI, the Al-Quds Committee will continue its tangible, visible, and highly appreciated action in favor of the preservation of the Holy City and the protection of the rights of the Maqdessis whether the Algerian military regime likes it or not.
