Ziniar©: The Secretary General of the Presidency of Faso, Zakaria Sor©, carried out a field visit this Friday, August 2, 2025, to the site of the University of Ziniar©, where a 500-seat amphitheater is under construction. He expressed the Executive’s dissatisfaction with the delay observed on this project, which is part of the Presidential Initiative for Quality Education for All.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the work on the university complex, launched six months ago and consisting of an amphitheater and a teaching block, shows a physical completion rate of around 20%, while more than 70% of the contractual deadline has already been completed, as explained by the Secretary General of the Presidency, Zakaria Sor©.
“When you put these two rates side by side, you understand the reason for our dissatisfaction. We would have liked the pace of construction to keep pace with the time consumed. After six months of work, we expected to see buildings already erected,” Mr. Sor© lamented.
Despite this observation, the SG remained optimistic: “We have given firm instructions to the teams on site to review their organization and accelerate the pace to deliver the work on time,” he declared.
The company in charge of the work, SOCOM, through technician Emmanuel Kabor©, acknowledged the delays and justified them by technical problems, including difficulties related to the design of certain structural elements and a water supply problem. However, he assured that solutions have been found and that the company is “on a good run.”
“The deadline will be met. We will mobilize more teams to speed up the work,” he promised.
The technical monitoring office, headed by Arnould Kabor©, also mentioned a delay in validating architectural plans, estimated at around three months. However, he reassured that construction standards were being respected: “At each stage, particularly during the concrete pouring process, the laboratory is present for inspections,” he said.
The construction of this amphitheater is part of the Presidential Initiative for Quality Education for All, led by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traor©. This initiative aims to provide higher education with modern infrastructure in order to position it as a lever for Burkina Faso’s development. Prior to this, regular checks by the President’s mission officer for the Central Plateau were proposed.
Its first component involves the construction and equipment of 40 university complexes, each consisting of an amphitheater and a three-story educational building. Fifteen of these amphitheaters will have a capacity of 1,000 seats, and 25 will accommodate 500 students. Twelve complexes were launched in January 2025, and their construction is part of an emergency program that requires speed and efficiency.
