Triple jump world champion Hugues Fabrice Zango sponsored Thursday at Bangr-Wéogo Park in Ouagadougou, a sports and self-defense walk organized by the French Embassy in Burkina to celebrate the Games Olympic Games (JO) Paris 2024, the start of which is scheduled for July 26.

In just over 100 days, the 2024 Olympic Games will open in Paris on July 26, followed by the Paralympic Games on August 28. In order to celebrate the event and to celebrate sport in general, the French Embassy in Burkina Faso organized a sports march followed by self-defense at the Bangr Weogo Urban Park in Ouagadougou.

‘This is the 3rd edition of the round-the-world relay of the Paris 2024 games with the NGO Terre de jeux which is based in France. The goal is that all French diplomatic posts in the world today, in their time slot, depending on where they are in the world, organize a sporting event from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. so that for 24 hours, no -stop, there is sport all over the world and we pass the famous Terre de jeux relay between
embassies with all the sporting partners that we can have in the different countries where we are going to be,’ explained the cooperation attaché at the French Embassy Clément Brousse.

This friendly and non-competitive event is under the patronage of Hugues Fabrice Zango, Olympic medalist and current triple jump world champion, and Philippe Duporge, charge d’affaires of the French embassy.

The triple jump world champion who roamed the streets of Bangr-Wéogo Park said that ‘when we talk about sport, it speaks directly to me. When we talk about the Olympic Games in this case. This year we are in an Olympic year which is particularly close to my heart with a big objective that I have within 4 months. When the French embassy asked me to be the sponsor of this relay event, I immediately said yes because it spoke directly to me.’

Fabrice Zango said he was ‘delighted to see that there is good mobilization with people who have returned to sport and who will stay there (I hope). As long as it is possible to support
sporting activities I am present.’

‘This activity allows me to inspire more people to do sport because I have a double motivation, to perform and to be able to transmit too. I saw a few young people who were happy to see me because it’s great to see me on TV but on site here it’s even better. It helps them to persevere in sporting activities,’ said Hugues Zango.

Hugues Zango says he is motivated to win the Olympic gold medal next summer in Paris. ‘There is the country which supports me, so I have a duty of accountability towards this nation which has supported me a lot,’ he said.

The cooperation attaché at the French Embassy Clément Brousse said he was satisfied with the progress of this activity. ‘We are very happy with this event which we organized thanks to our partners and the mobilization of the entire French embassy network. There are around sixty participants and we are very happy that everyone had a good time.’

This fitness walk ended with a short self-defense session with Gloria Guissou Kabré, (3
rd dan black belt ) general director of Ringo Sport and a light snack.

Tunis: Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), Noureddine Taboubi, stressed on Thursday that “trade union rights are a red line that must not be crossed, adding that the UGTT is committed to dialogue, social negotiations and the implementation of previously signed agreements”.

He pointed out that the steering committee, which met last week, had adopted a series of measures, including the continuation of activist movements in defence of trade union rights.

In a statement to TAP on the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the death of trade union leader Habib Achour in Sfax, Taboubi said that the social situation in Tunisia is difficult due to rising prices and the deterioration of citizens’ purchasing power, noting that pensioners from the national social security fund had not received a pay rise.

“The commemoration of the death of trade unionist Habib Achour is held every year on March 14 in recognition of the late trade union leader and his militant work for the country’s indepe
ndence,” he added.
