Ukraine authorizes the recruitment of prisoners for its army, in exchange for an amnesty

Ukrainian deputies adopted a bill on Wednesday authorizing certain prisoners to lead the fight against Russia, in exchange for an amnesty, according to several European media.

With its numbers decimated in the fighting against Russia, Ukraine received legal authorization to recruit prisoners to go to the front. MP Olena Chouliak, from Volodymyr Zelensky’s party, clarified on Facebook that this measure will only concern voluntary detainees, and will not be applicable for convictions for serious crimes, including murder, sexual violence or attacks on national security, reports the Swiss Radio and Television (RTS).

According to this MP, the text was adopted by 279 votes in favor at second reading.
