Tunisia, UAE seek investment in agrofood industry, pharmaceuticals


Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy Fatma Thabet Chiboub and Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Tunisia Imen Ahmed Sellami said there is need to step up joint efforts to boost investment in the agrofood industry, mainly the exportation of bottled olive oil and dates, pharmaceuticals and automotive and aeronautical components.

Dubai-headquartered Clean Energy Solutions AMEA Power, a developer,owner and operator of renewable energy projects, is keen to launch a 100 MW n solar photovoltaic power station project in Metbasta, Kairouan and move ahead with other clean energy projects, the minister was quoted as saying in a press release.

The minister also said the UAE made significant progress in connection to free trade areas and said it is importnt to build on this experience.

The national strategy of industry and innovation was outlined along with the national energy strategy by 2035.

Tunisia, Fatma Thabet Chiboub said, seeks to ease procedures to attract investments in promising sectors.

The UAE i
s ready to back the development process in Tunisia as it boasts a qualified workforce, the ambassador said.

She also urged the need to tap into the experience and experise in IT by means of organising field visits for business delegations from both countries.
