Ouagadougou: In a spirit of solidarity and civic engagement, the driving forces of the commune of Sapouy mobilized this Saturday for a sanitation and rehabilitation operation on departmental road 123. The initiative consisted of filling potholes and cleaning gutters overgrown with waste and grass, in order to facilitate smoother and safer traffic.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the action, which started from the National Highway 6 to the Sapouy Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA), brought together local authorities, community organizations, youth associations, civic watchdogs, women’s organizations, and volunteers. Equipped with shovels, picks, and tricycles, they joined forces to restore the proud appearance of this busy road.
For many participants, this civic gesture is proof that social cohesion and patriotic commitment remain the best responses to daily challenges. “We decided to roll up our sleeves because this road is ours, and it’s up to us to take care of it,” said a member of the civic watch, smiling, between shovelfuls.
Participant Amina Kabore commented: “At one point, we realized that the road was so badly damaged, and we decided to go out and try to fill the potholes and weed along the road. I appreciate it because it’s a patriotic effort. According to our captain, everyone must do their part to help the country move forward.” She also praised the mobilization: “Everyone understood that to move forward, we can’t move forward without being together.”
Christophe Nama, First Vice-President of the Sapouy Special Delegation, expressed gratitude towards the initiators of the activity: “This is an action that is in line with the vision of the highest authorities. It is up to us to develop our locality. I salute all the mobilized youth and I invite the population to remain committed to such initiatives.”
Harouna Barry, Provincial Director of Infrastructure and Accessibility of Ziro, remarked: “It is a feeling of recognition for the citizen initiative to carry out actions to clean the gutters and treat the potholes on the D123. It is truly a great initiative. The road is a common heritage and everyone must get involved to preserve it.” He also highlighted certain practices, such as the collection of sand in the ditches, which weaken the road infrastructure.
The authorities present welcomed this exemplary initiative which, beyond the simple maintenance of the road, reflects the desire of the people of Sapouy to build a healthy and safe living environment. With this giant sweep, the D123 is gradually regaining its shine and will facilitate traffic, especially during medical evacuations.
