Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe government has congratulated the mining company Iamgold Essakane for its resilience in the face of the security crisis and for its exemplary nature in promoting social cohesion in its mining activities.

During a visit to the mining site located in the Sahel, ‘Minister Gouba praised the efforts made by each actor (in the mine) for the promotion of social cohesion and the construction of security. He also reaffirmed the government’s desire to work towards the continuous improvement of security for the development of the region and Burkina Faso,’ further indicates the communications service of the Ministry of Mines.

uring this two-day visit, the Minister met with the Managing Director of Iamgold Essakane, Tidiane Barry, representatives of the Defense and Security Forces and the communities of Essakane, after taking part in the Laureates’ Night organized by the mine to reward the merit of its agents.
In December 2023, the Burkinabe state and this mining company reached an amicable agreement to close a case on accusations of precious materials fraud which had brought them together in court since 2018.
Iamgold Essakane, whose parent company is based in Canada, operates a site of more than 100 km2.
In 2023, it offered the commune of Gorom Gorom a water supply system costing 200 million FCFA and food kits for 1,000 vulnerable households.
