The long-awaited city of artists will be launched during the 20th edition of National Culture Week (SNC) Bobo 2023, reassures the Minister in charge of culture in the daily Sidwaya this Friday.

The Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo underlines this Friday in the public daily Sidwaya that “the city of Artists is the great project which his ministry has been holding (…) for many years “.

On the project, he said that “a lot of work has been done in terms of researching the land and the architectural plans” but regretted that “so far, this city is still at the project stage”.

Minister Ouédraogo nevertheless reassured that this year, actions have been taken to advance the project, in particular the decision to mobilize “resources for this city of Artists”.

“The launch of its construction will be done on the sidelines of this SNC and we will give ourselves the means to give substance to this project. We also have partners, in particular the cultural sponsor, who made us the promise for the realization of this city”, he promised.

Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo intends “to put the maximum of energy and effort to bring to fruition this project to which the Ministry of Culture and the community of culture in general are attached”.

He noted “that this city will come to solve many equations such as accommodation and will be functional to offer other services, independently and permanently in order to generate income for the benefit of the SNC”. For the construction of the City of Artists, a plot of approximately 4 hectares is acquired.

While waiting for the construction of the city, for this year, the accommodation commission has planned to accommodate the artists on sites fitted out for this purpose, unlike in previous years when they were accommodated in schools.

The 20th edition of the National Week of Culture (SNC) Bobo 2023 is experiencing innovations including the participation of Living Human Treasures (THV).

According to Minister Ouédraogo, the Living Human Treasures (THV) “are holders of authentic knowledge and know-how of our culture, (…) and they are invited to have direct exchanges with the youngest, the pupils in order to share values to this new generation.

In addition to this strong participation of HSRs, there is the development of tourism which is also one of the innovations of the 20th SNC, noted the Minister. “We have estimated that the more than 600,000 expected festival-goers can usefully visit all the attractions of the city of Bobo-Dioulasso,” he said.

On the technological level, Minister Ouédraogo also noted “the possibility of buying tickets by Mobile Money through the telephone networks to relieve congestion and avoid long queues in front of the sales counters”.

The 20th edition of the SNC will be held from Saturday April 29 to Saturday May 6, 2023 under the theme “Cultural diversity, ferment of national unity”.
