Tetouan: Two Partnership Agreements Signed to Enhance Jewish Heritage in Northern Region

The first partnership agreement was signed by the Advisor to His Majesty the King and founding president of the Essaouira-Mogador Association, André Azoulay, the president of the commune of Tetouan, Mustapha El Bakkouri, the founding president of the Center for Studies and Research on Hebrew Law, Abdellah Ouzitane, the Executive President of the Center for Studies and Research on Hebrew Law in Morocco and Director of the Chair of Hebrew Law at the Mohammed V University of Rabat, Farid El Bacha, and the President of the Sephardic Federation of Canada and Vice-President of the World Sephardic Federation, Avraham El Arar.

This agreement aims to preserve the documents of the Jews of Tetouan and to establish a regulatory framework of collaboration between the signatory parties, with the objective of highlighting the Jewish heritage of Tetouan and enhancing the tangible and intangible heritage of the Jews of the city.

The signatories to this agreement undertake to organize seminars and joint scientific meetings to highlight the civilizational heritage of the Jews of Tetouan, to strengthen cooperation and coordination in the collection, archiving and preservation of Jewish heritage in Tetouan, and to work towards the creation of a local archive of the Jews of Tetouan, with a view to the creation of a museum to preserve the Jewish memory of the city.

The second partnership agreement, signed by Azoulay, the President of the Abdelmalek Essaadi University, Bouchta El Moumni, the representative of the Jewish community of Tetouan, Albert Hayoun, and Ouzitane and El Bacha, concerns the establishment of a regulatory framework for collaboration between the parties, with a view to promoting research on the history of the Jews of the northern region and enhancing the tangible and intangible heritage of the Jews of Tetouan.

The parties undertake to organize symposiums and scientific meetings to highlight the civilizational heritage of the Jews of the northern region, to strengthen cooperation and coordination to collect and archive the Jewish heritage of Tetouan, and to create a museum to preserve the Jewish memory of the city.
