Tenado Residents Unite to Repair Impassable Road in Batondo

Tenado: The population of Batondo, in the municipality of Tenado, mobilized this Friday to repair the main road that connects Batondo to Tenado, which had become impassable, the AIB noted.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the village of Batondo has faced significant challenges with its access routes due to the rainy season. Heavy downpours had severely damaged the entrance road, posing a risk of isolating the village. Instead of waiting for assistance from public services, the residents took the initiative to address the issue themselves, showcasing a strong sense of community and determination.

On Friday, August 29, a large number of villagers, including men, women, and children, came together to restore the critical roadway. Armed with shovels, picks, dabas, and even utilizing motorcycle taxis to transport materials, they worked collaboratively to repair the road.

The community’s effort was bolstered by support from Batondo natives residing outside the village, who provided moral, material, and financial assistance. A significant donation of five tons of cement highlighted the collective commitment to the cause.

To ensure the longevity of their repairs, the villagers decided to ban the collection of aggregates from the roadsides, reflecting their intention to protect the infrastructure.

The actions of Batondo’s residents illustrate that solutions to local problems often lie within the community itself. By taking proactive steps, they not only repaired a crucial road but also demonstrated the strength of local initiative and solidarity. A local resident, Abdou Bazame, remarked on the importance of self-reliance, noting, “it must be said that the call of the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traore, did not fall on deaf ears. We are in the era of Faso Mªbo and we who are in deep Burkina cannot remain on the sidelines.”
