This cultural event is the result of a partnership between the embassies of Spanish-speaking countries accredited to Morocco and the Cervantes Institute in Rabat, whose aim is to introduce people to Spanish culture and literature, said Mr. Chipoco, also coordinator of the week of the Spanish language in Morocco.

Speaking to MAP, the Peruvian diplomat invited Moroccan students and researchers interested in Spanish-speaking and Latin cultures to discover closely the cultural activities of this edition, which coincides with the celebrations marking the International Day of the Spanish Language (April 23), with a view to learning about the characteristics of Spanish culture.

For his part, the director of the Cervantes Institute in Rabat, José María Martínez, said that the week of the Spanish language in Morocco will feature several cultural and literary subjects and themes of Spanish and Latin origin.

This is an opportunity to highlight the literary works of Spanish-speaking Moroccan novelists and authors produced during the period marked by the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, he added, noting that this edition will be organized in virtual mode with the aim of facilitating communication between participants from Morocco and those from Latin America.

For her part, the Mexican Ambassador in Rabat, Mabel Gomez, stressed that a rich cultural program has been prepared by the said embassies in order to highlight the importance of the Spanish language in terms of culture, tourism and economy.

The Spanish language is a window for Moroccans to discover Latin America and its culture, she pointed out.

The program of this edition will be enhanced by the participation of several writers from Spanish-speaking countries, in addition to Moroccan academics specializing in Spanish literature.

Organized at the initiative of the embassies of Spanish-speaking countries accredited to Morocco, namely Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, Guatemala, Equatorial Guinea, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Venezuela, this edition was initiated in partnership with the Cervantes Institute.
