Tunis: Esperance Sportive de Tunis won their 33rd championship title one day before the end of the Championship phase, after defeating US Monastir 2-0 at a day-9 game played on Saturday evening in Rades behind closed doors.
Rodrigo Rodriguez scored the two goals in the 21st and 66th minutes.
With this sixth win and third in a row in the championship phase, Esperance took their tally to 23 points, a full eight points ahead of US Monastir with one day to go.
US Monastir are still in need of a point at the final day against Stade Tunisien to secure participation in next season’s CAF Champions’ League.
