SNJT and ISIE commit to facilitating journalists’ access to polling centres

The Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) and the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) agreed on Monday to ensure journalists’ access to voting centres and offices across the country on Sunday, December 24, 2023, the day of the local council elections.

During a meeting at the ISIE headquarters, both parties committed to guaranteeing journalists’ right to obtain election results from local authorities.

They underscored the importance of independent and transparent cooperation throughout the various stages of the electoral process. The SNJT, for its part, committed to appointing a national representative and local representatives to coordinate with the council of the ISIE, both centrally and at the local level, to address any issues that may arise during the electoral process.

In the coming weeks, the two parties will draft a working agreement covering various aspects of their collaboration, including training, as stated in a SNJT press release.

The ISIE, in its statement, conveyed Presi
dent Farouk Bouasker’s satisfaction with the collaboration between the two entities and emphasised the crucial role of the media in the success of electoral milestones.

He stressed the need for coordination between the two parties to disseminate electoral terminology and ensure citizens’ access to accurate and credible information.
