The Republic of Guinea has been chosen by the Burkinabè authorities to be the guest of honor country for the 20th National Culture Week (SNC). Focus on the country.

National Culture Week (SNC), established in 1983 under the Burkinabè revolution, aims to promote the culture of the country of honest men in all its diversity.

For this 20th edition, which takes place from April 29 to May 6, 2023 in Bobo-Dioulasso, the country’s second largest city, the Burkinabè authorities have chosen the Republic of Guinea to be the guest country of honor.

This act magnifies the historical and cultural ties between the two countries, especially the desire to strengthen this fraternal cooperation.

Guinea is presented as a country of unity and cultural diversity with a “rich cultural heritage” including the Mamaya de Kankan, a dance declared by the authorities National Cultural Heritage of Guinea in 2018.

This event, organized to the rhythm of the balafon, the tam-tam and the guitar, brings together thousands of people in Kankan, the second largest city in the country.

The cultural and artistic landscape of Guinea offers an attractive face, through a particular traditional art for each of the regions of the country.

Music also plays a special role with various tricks through songs and incantations of the genre to encourage and stimulate in trials.

Several major cultural events exist in Guinea. There is the Tourism and Crafts Fair which brings together national and foreign actors for a week in Conakry to highlight local riches.

The Festival of Traditional Music and Storytelling (FEMUTRAC) is also an event that brings together national artists but also from the entire sub-region.

The Seven Days of the Seventh Art Festival is a cultural event which, through the distribution of Guinean and foreign films, offers a week of discovering the seventh art in a different way.

Without forgetting the Festival of Urban Music of Guinea (FEMUG), created with the aim of promoting Guinean music in its new trend, its new style and rhythm (Afro Mandinka, Reggae, dancehall, Rap, Ragga, etc.).

Tourism potential

Located in West Africa, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Republic of Guinea is also renowned for its Mount Nimba Strict Nature Reserve.

This reserve protects a forested mountain range that is home to local plants and animals, including viviparous chimpanzees and toads.

On the coast, the capital Conakry hosts the large modern mosque and the national museum which contains regional objects.

At this biennial of culture, placed under the sign of national unity, the guest country of honor intends to mark its participation by the presence of artists such as the famous Bembeya Jazz orchestra, a famous music group created in 1961 and the Amoukanama company (Guinean acrobats).

A framework for promoting and enhancing the identities and cultural expressions of communities in Burkina Faso, the 20th SNC will host 105 artistic troupes and ensembles, 47 culinary arts specialists, 189 wrestlers and archers, 27 visual arts works and thousands of festival-goers. in the city of Sya.

And to make this edition a success, major activities are planned. These are the craft and commercial fair, the off artistic platforms, the community village, the gallery of African gastronomy, museum and literary exhibitions, activities for children, conferences, panels and dedications, a arts, partners’ night and winners’ night.

In addition to its festive aspect, the event also has a competition window for Burkinabè artists.
