SNC Bobo 2023: 129 athletes competing in traditional sports

The Minister of Sports, Youth and Employment, Boubacar Savadogo, gave the starting signal for traditional sports competitions on May 1, 2023 at the Wobi stadium in Bobo -Dioulasso. 129 athletes including 95 wrestlers and 34 archers are in the running.

The traditional sports competitions of the SNC Bobo 2023 are open. On May 1 , 2023 at the Wobi stadium in Bobo-Dioulasso, the Minister of Sports, Youth and Employment, Boubacar Savadogo, gave the starting signal for the competitions.

In total, 129 athletes will compete in traditional wrestling and archery for the coronation on the evening of May 4th. In the traditional wrestling category, there are 95 including 13 ladies divided into two pools.

In the young girls and boys pool, we have the categories of 42 kg, 48 kg, 54 kg and 60 kg. In the adult pool we have the 60 kg, 65 kg, 76 kg and 77 kg and above. We also have the open competition.

For Minister Boubacar Savadogo, sport is recognized as a factor of culture and a major contributor to human development and the strengthening of national cohesion.

“Traditional Burkinabè wrestling and archery are sports games with ancestral origins. These two disciplines have always been the games of our fathers, our great-grandfathers and have been practiced as leisure or utilitarian activities”, recalled the first manager of the sports department.

And to add: “Formerly as now, traditional wrestling and archery continue to attract enthusiastic crowds. Their evolution over time has taken on such dimensions that it has required reflections of all kinds with a view to modernizing them while preserving their traditional cachet”.

Two departments offer five special prices

Five special prizes will be awarded to traditional sports (traditional wrestling and archery). The Ministry of National Education for Literacy and the Promotion of National Languages is offering 4 special prizes worth 500,000 FCFA each. The Ministry of Sports, Youth and Employment is offering a special prize worth 500,000 FCFA.
