Koudougou: The city of Koudougou hosted the official launch of a sickle cell disease awareness caravan on Tuesday for the benefit of the Center-West region, AIB noted on site.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative, under the theme “Sickle cell disease, what if we talked about it at school,” aims to educate students in the Centre-Ouest region about this genetic and hereditary disease through literary and theatrical activities.
The caravan provides an opportunity for students to learn more about sickle cell disease. Dr. Val©rie Pouan, a medical doctor and writer, emphasized the importance of raising awareness, as sickle cell disease affects millions of people worldwide.
With his partners, Dr. Pouan will also offer students the opportunity to find out their blood types on May 27 and 28, 2025, directly in the courtyard of the Koudougou Provincial High School, which hosted the launch of this activity.
The caravan’s organizing committee has set itself the ambitious goal of reaching no fewer than 214 establishments in the Centre-Ouest region throughout the next school year.
The opening speech, delivered by the interim governor’s technical advisor, Augustin Ou©draogo, reaffirmed the regional authorities’ commitment to this essential cause.
