“It is obvious that Morocco has sovereignty over its southern provinces (…) the settlement of the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara must, indeed, imperatively go through the United Nations, in the framework of the Moroccan autonomy plan,” Bustamante told the press following talks with the President of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Khalihenna Ould Errachid.

Leading a Peruvian parliamentary delegation, Bustamante noted that this plan proposes “autonomy in fiscal, economic, educational and cultural matters, among others, within the framework of the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco”.

He also stressed the importance of recognizing countries that “really meet the conditions” to be defined as States, according to the standards established by the United Nations.

The Peruvian parliamentary delegation includes, in addition to Bustamante, José Cueto, the President of the Congress Intelligence Committee, and Patricia Juarez, President of the Constitutional Commission of the Peruvian Congress.
