This Friday’s Burkinabè dailies discuss the high cost of communication credits in Burkina Faso, the fine coal trial and the results of the 2023 school exams.

“Review of school exams 2023: Success rate down and SIGEC software not mastered”, sports the headline of the private daily Today in Faso, where the dean of private daily newspapers in Burkina Faso L’Observateur Paalga titles: “School exams 2023: Review on three tables”.

The two newspapers inform that yesterday Thursday, the Minister of National Education, Literacy and the Promotion of National Languages, André Joseph Ouédraogo, hosted a press conference.

To read L’Observateur Paaga, the Minister noted areas of imperfections such as the lack of mastery of the Integrated System for the Management of Examinations and Competitions (SIGEC) by users, the stabilization of candidate data in the security context and the alleged traffic in summonses from correctors.

On the same subject, the national daily Sidwaya shows the drop in success rates for the Bac and the BEPC session 2023.

The public daily reports that according to the Minister in charge of National Education, André Joseph Ouédraogo, there are 51,139 candidates admitted to the baccalaureate out of 130,240, i.e. a success rate of 39.27% and a drop of 1.84 points compared to 2022 which was 41.11%.

According to the same media, the minister noted that the BEPC admitted are 79,937 out of a workforce of 376,799 candidates, representing a national success rate of 38.27%.

According to him, there is a drop of 3.08 points compared to the past year which was 41.35%.

Sidwaya adds that at the level of education and technical and vocational training, out of 22,472 candidates presented, 16,983 were declared admitted to the CAP and BEP, ie a success rate of 75.57%.

Consequently, this rate shows an increase in admissions of 6.52 points, unlike the previous year which was 69.05%, underlines the same daily.

According to the public daily, the Certificate of Primary Education (CEP) also recorded an increase of 8.06 points. Indeed, out of 360,226 candidates, 256,621 were admitted, i.e. an overall rate of 71.24% against 63.18% IN 2022, he concluded.

From another angle, the private daily newspaper Le Pays displays on its front page: “End coal trial: As soon as open as soon as returned sine die”.

The newspaper informs that the hearing of the fine coal trial, suspended for a few months, resumed on July 20, 2023 at the High Court of Ouagadougou (TGI).

According to the same newspaper, most of the defendants answered the call. But given the absence of certain defendants and the judicial holidays, the case was returned to the general list.

On this subject, the public daily Sidwaya indicates that the hearing was returned to the general list (waiting for the file) at the request of certain parties, in particular the mining company IAMGOLD Essakane implicated in this case with the company Bolloré and agents of the public administration.

According to the same daily, the lawyer for the National Anti-Corruption Network (REN-LAC), Me Prospère Farama, felt that the dismissal could be granted since all the conditions were not met to judge the case on yesterday’s date.

Under another section, the newspaper Le Quotidien displays: “High communication prices in Burkina Faso: A boycott campaign from Tuesday, August 8”.

In this regard, L’Observateur Paalga mentions: “Expensiveness of communications: ADDH launches operation wind of salvation”, before reporting that the platform of Associations for the Defense of Human Rights (ADDH), as part of its fight to reduce the costs of electronic communications service held a press conference on July 20, 2023 in Ouagadougou.

According to him, it was an opportunity for the members of this organization to comment on the decision of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (ARCEP) and to launch phase 2 of the boycott operation called “wind of salvation”.

According to the newspaper, this will consist of disconnecting from social networks for 5 hours and the starting signal is scheduled for August 8.

By the way, Le Pays adds that “faced with the scam of mobile telephone operators, the association for the defense of human rights says it is outraged by the attitude of the government which, according to it, does not make the fair denunciations of the consumers it is supposed to protect”.
