Tunis: The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) decided on Wednesday to appoint Sabri Lamouchi as the new head coach of the Tunisia national football team for the coming period. The federation’s official spokesperson, Moez Mestiri, stated that the executive bureau approved Lamouchi’s appointment and agreed with him on all contractual, financial, and organizational terms.
According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse – English – English, the initial performance-based contract with Lamouchi is set to run until July 31, 2027. His performance will be evaluated and, if deemed satisfactory, the contract will be extended until July 31, 2028. The spokesperson emphasized that Lamouchi’s contract is based on achieving specific goals. Furthermore, Lamouchi will have the responsibility of selecting the new technical staff, with a recommendation to include some national technical profiles.
Separately, the executive bureau received and formally acknowledged reports from various departments, including the sporting and financial directors, the medical staff, and the communications officer. The bureau plans to review these reports and make appropriate decisions in its next meeting.
Sabri Lamouchi, a 54-year-old Tunisian-French coach, brings extensive experience to his new role. He previously managed the Cote d’Ivoire national football team in 2012 and has coached several clubs, including Al Jaish in Qatar, Stade Rennais in France, Nottingham Forest in England, Al Duhail in Qatar, Cardiff City, Al Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, and most recently, Al Diriyah.
The federation’s decision to appoint Lamouchi follows the dismissal of coach Sami Trabelsi and his entire technical staff after the Carthage Eagles were eliminated in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations by Mali’s national football team.
