Run-off local elections: 1.6% turnout up to 10 a.m. (Mnasri)

The turnout in the run-off local elections had reached 1. 6% by 10 a.m., announced Spokesman for the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) Mohamed Tlili Mnasri.

The turnout recorded had been “low” two hours after the opening of polling centres, said Mnasri in a statement to the media.

He did, however, report a satisfactory turnout in the country’s interior regions.

The majority of voters who had casted their ballots by 10 a.m. are aged 60 and over, he pointed out.

Polling centres will close at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

In an earlier statement, the ISIE spokesman pointed out that the drop in the number of constituencies and voters involved in the run-off local elections augurs well for a higher turnout compared to the figures recorded in the first round.

The total number of voters involved in the run-off is 4 million 181 thousand 871.

The turnout recorded in the first round of local elections was 11.84%.
