Riyadh: Morocco Joins Digital Cooperation Organization

Morocco thus becomes the 9th member of the Organization after the Kingdom’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mustapha Mansouri, signed the DCO’s constituent act during a ceremony in Riyadh.

The accession of Morocco “is a qualitative contribution to the work of the DCO, given the position of the Kingdom as a digital and technological axis of reference in Africa,” said Tuesday the Organization in a statement.

It “is part of the objectives of Morocco in accelerating the digital transition, to meet new socio-economic challenges, contribute to improving the business climate and expand initiatives to empower women, youth and entrepreneurs, to achieve the potential of the digital economy,” added the same source.

By joining the DCO, Morocco will help increase the overall GDP of member countries, which will exceed 2 trillion dollars, while the population of member states will increase to more than half a billion people, 70% of whom are under 35 years old.

The Secretary General of the Organization, Dima Al-Yahya stressed that Morocco has made remarkable progress in developing its digital agenda and offers its citizens the opportunity to prosper under the aegis of the digital economy, noting that the two sides will work together on strengthening the impact of the DCO in building an inclusive global digital economy.

In addition to Morocco, the Digital Cooperation Organization, which works to achieve digital prosperity through activities and initiatives focused on the digital economy and support for youth, entrepreneurs and women, includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Jordan, Rwanda and Saudi Arabia.
